How Can I Manage my Reference Codes?

Reference Codes are URL parameters that you can add to the end of your contribution form URL that track, collect, and store information about where your contributions are coming from. The Reference Code will live on a contribution record. Numero holds Reference Codes when they are linked to contributions made on Numero contributions and, for teams with an ActBlue webhook turned on, contributions made through an ActBlue form.

Ways to use Reference Codes in Your CRM:

Manage Your Reference Codes

  1. From your Numero CRM, head to your Codes tab (aka Code Management Center) and select the Reference Codes tab.
  2. You will see a table of all existing Reference Codes sorted by when they were created.  These codes can be a combination of Reference Codes that live on Numero and also on ActBlue contributions. Note: You can also create Reference Codes that are shared between both processing platforms (Numero & ActBlue).
  3. To edit the Reference Code, click the three dots to the right of the code. Editing will enable you to change the Code’s name, the category of code, and the description of the code. Be sure to click Update Reference Code before leaving the slideout.
  4. To be taken to a list of all contributions that have been made with that Reference Code, click the purple hyperlinked digit in the Contributions column. Note: You cannot bulk edit, add, or remove Reference Codes.

Add a Reference Code to an existing contribution record

  1. From a donor’s activity history or from the Contributions tab, find the contribution record in question to view the contribution record in detail
  2. Select the purple pencil icon to edit the record
  3. From the edit contribution slider, you can add on existing Reference Codes to associate with this record or create new ones to add in by typing it into the Reference Codes field
  4. You can also create and apply Reference Codes as you bulk import Contributions

View Total Raised by Reference Code

  1. Open the More tab to View your Codes
  2. From your Codes tab, select Reference Codes
  3. Within your Reference Codes tab you will notice all the Reference Codes you have either created through manually applying, importing, or which have been ported over via your ActBlue webhook
  4. You can also reference the column for Total Raised which will total all contributions attributed to that Reference Code

Bonus tip! Want to add a Reference Code to your text/email template link?

  1. From your email or text template, add this code right after your {CONTRIBUTION_URL} mail merge key: &refcode=Insert_Code_Here
  2. Be sure to test that your template sends the way you want it before sending to a donor!
